After almost two years of construction work, the indoor pool at Akureyri swimming pool has finally opened, at least for school swimming lessons. There is great satisfaction with how the project turned out.

Renovation work on the indoor pool at Akureyri swimming pool began in autumn 2024. The old pool had become dated, and the project represents a major improvement for swimming instruction in Akureyri. The cost of the work runs into several hundred million krónur.

The project caused some minor disruption to school swimming lessons at primary schools in Brekkan. Pool management and swimming instructors nevertheless found ways to manage during the two years of construction.

People who take part in aqua aerobics and baby swimming, as well as physiotherapists, are also delighted that the pool is coming back into use. For the time being, it will only be open for school swimming lessons, but it will not be long before the general public can use it.
